What are DNA Biometrics?

DNA biometrics are based on genetic markers in human DNA. These biological traits provide near-certain identification. DNA is powerful, sensitive, and—outside of forensics—non-standard in consumer KYC for privacy, legal and practical reasons. Collection is intrusive, processing is slow compared to face or finger, and governance demands are rigorous.

Its presence: it’s not for law enforcement only, but you’ll find it there. Collection is common in commercial onboarding only at the upper extremes of identity or risk management. The risks of misuse, consent, and cross‑matching concerns outweigh the convenience.

If you must touch the topic: Only do so with explicit legal basis, clear consent, strict retention limits, and segregation from other datasets. Protect against re‑identification and unauthorized sharing. Prefer less intrusive biometrics for routine verification—strong identity verification with liveness checks will usually provide the level of assurance you need without the genetic baggage.

Bottom line: just because DNA is definitive doesn’t mean it’s appropriate. Choose proportional tools.
