What is Face Identification?
Face identification is a 1: N search – given a probe face, who in the gallery does it match, if anyone? It powers watchlist checks and deduplication across large user bases. Unlike authentication, thresholds must account for scale: as galleries grow, false hits creep upward unless your bar rises with them.
Build with caution. Use high-quality, consented galleries; segment by jurisdiction; and limit where identification is allowed. Liveness is non-negotiable. Without strong liveness checks, you’re comparing masks and screens, not people. Keep results explainable with candidate lists, scores, and reason codes so reviewers know why the engine pointed there.
