What is Fraud Filter?
A fraud filter is a gateway rule or setting—often inside a PSP or ecommerce platform—that blocks or flags transactions based on simple conditions: country mismatches, velocity caps, BIN lists, IP ranges, order value limits. Easy to deploy, easy to misunderstand. Filters catch low‑hanging fruit; they also produce false declines if you set them and forget them.
Use filters as guardrails, not blunt walls. Start narrow, monitor impact, and pair each filter with a fallback—step‑up verification or manual review for borderline cases. Feed confirmed outcomes back into tuning. Keep separate profiles for testing vs. peak seasons so marketing isn’t fighting your rules mid‑campaign.
