What is Point to Point Encryption?
Point‑to‑Point Encryption (P2PE) is encryption of cardholder data (CHD) from the point of capture (PIN pad, secure reader) through to the payment processor, without the raw PAN/CVV entering your environment. Even if an app is cracked, the payload is empty if the keys are held outside your environment.
Benefits: smaller PCI scope, less data at risk, fewer sleepless nights. Caveats: device management and key handling must be flawless, and integrations require strict change control so no one sneaks in a downgrade.
